چکیده

This research presents an investigation into the effects of metallicity and the initial mass function (IMF) on the star formation rates (SFRs) of star forming regions. Studies of SFRs at different eras in the universe help to understand galaxy formation and evolution and how stellar populations change over time. Photometry observations from the UH 2.2m telescope located on Mauna Kea and the Supernova Integrated Field Spectrograph (SNIFS) instrument provided the emission line data for the project. After determining the metallicity, the data was used to obtain estimates of SFRs. The IMF is another fundamental property of galaxy evolution and star formation. Determining the origin of the IMF and the sensitivity of SFRs to the IMF helps to develop theories of stellar population evolution. This paper looks at how the IMF contributes to SFRs by calculating the contribution of ionizing photons per spectral type and attempting to compare and correlate the theoretical calculations with observations.

Stellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups

It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...

Scaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters

We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...

Effects of star cluster evolution on emission line ratios and the application to H II galaxies Including a calibration of the R23 vs. 12+log(O/H) relationship

Amodel of spectral evolution of star forming galaxies of various metallicity has been used to study the relation between the optical emission line ratio R23= ([OII]λ3727 +[OIII]λλ4959,5007)/Hβ and the nebular oxygen abundance. It is shown that the scatter in an empirical comparison sample could be due to various upper stellar mass limits or different slopes of the stellar initial mass function ...

On the Constancy of the Characteristic Mass of Young Stars

The characteristic mass Mc in the stellar initial mass function (IMF) is about constant for most star-forming regions. Numerical simulations consistently show a proportionality between Mc and the thermal Jeans mass MJ at the time of cloud fragmentation, but no models have explained how it can be the same in diverse conditions. Here we show that MJ depends weakly on density, temperature, metalli...

The Host Galaxy of Grb 060505: Host Ism Properties

We investigate the ISM environment of GRB 060505. Using optical emission-line diagnostic ratios, we compare the ISM properties of the GRB 060505 host region with the hosts of unambiguous longand shortduration GRBs. We show that the metallicity, ionization state, and star formation rate of the GRB 060505 environment are more consistent with short-duration GRBs than with long-duration GRBs. We co...
